Origin and history of the street and building

The first record of the building dates back to 1434, although it is known that the building is much older, since there are no previous records. The custom was to name the street with the name of the most important person who had lived there. The street was known by three names: Carrer del Forn de Urba Salord, Carrer dels Banys and Carrer that goes from the Esglesia Major to the Portal de la Mar.

The first known owner of the oven building was Joan Coll. Later we know that it was owned, between 1531 and 1535, by Lluc Rosselló. It was a public oven that had to bake homemade bread for its customers, as well as other products such as meats, formatjades, cocas, etc... An oven could not be freely opened without the obligatory concession of the Royal Patrimony to which a tribute had to be paid annually. In this case, the amount to be paid, on Easter Day, was eight salaries. The city was completely destroyed on July 9, 1558; The Turks entered the Citadel after a heroic resistance. Not a single house was left standing, those on this street were no exception, but the oven was rebuilt in the same place, continuing with its activity, until 1971 when the Larequie Ventura family bought it, converting it into the current restaurant in 1978.

Today the Larequie Ventura family continues with the same enthusiasm and passion as the first day. caring for and maintaining their traditional and at the same time current cuisine that has been passed down from parents to children. Today, Daniel Larequie (son), took over from Daniel Larequie (father) more than two decades ago and maintains the family business, preserving the architecture of the premises and the tradition in its dishes.
